These tracks were composed and arranged using computer music software and live guitars. The tracks Wallbanger and Cariba show influences of rock and softer `sunshine` sounds respectively. Dream is an experimental loop, using synth techniques. The tracks Western, Takeoff and Caress were originally composed for use in a short film about paragliding on the South Downs in Sussex. This film never came to fruition, mainly due to the unusually bad weather that summer. I have now come to realize that paragliding is just a little too far out of my reach – being now confined to a wheelchair, the logistics are very demanding. The weather here seems to be taking a turn for the worse generally and sailing is a much more reliable pursuit. (Famous last words) Back to the tunes – Western was designed as accompaniment to speeded-up footage of myself dismantling my wheelchair. Takeoff and Caress attempt to convey the dream-like experience of being tugged gently away from the confines of gravity, and up into the sky, by a paraglider circling in buoyant, rising air. In fact, to be more accurate, Caress is really more akin to an expression of relaxation and awe at being suspended thousands of feet up in the sky. I really must try and realize this goal and make a video of this incredible pastime. Watch this space! Not too closely! |
